The Rule Of 100
“Better than 95% of the world in that discipline” is a great analogy, but a little misleading.
95% of the world doesn’t participate in your discipline. So, that means 95% of the people don’t even care about your discipline. The goal is to be better than 95% of the people within your discipline. That means the rule of 100 is a staggeringly low baseline, for high-performers.
The work you put in needs to be disproportionately higher than your peers, to be in the top 5% (or, better than 95%), within your specialization. Time to go to work.
